Birth Chart Calculator
"Your sign" usually means only where the Sun was on your birthday. A full birth chart (natal chart) looks at where all ten bodies — from the Sun and Moon to Pluto — stood at the moment you were born, and which sign was rising on the eastern horizon at that moment. Enter your date, time and city of birth to calculate it instantly.
Reading your result — Sun, Moon and Rising
Astrologers call these three the "Big Three" and read them first. Your Sun sign is the familiar sign set by your birthday; it describes your basic temperament and the direction of your life. Your Moon sign describes how your emotions move and where you feel at ease. The Moon travels about 13° a day and changes sign every two to three days, so people with the same birthday can have different Moon signs.
Your Rising sign (Ascendant) is the sign that was crossing the eastern horizon when you were born. Because the sky turns once a day, the rising sign changes roughly every two hours, so two people born on the same day in the same city can have different ones. It is read as the first impression you give and the way you approach new situations — and it can only be calculated accurately with a birth time.
The ten bodies and the houses
The table shows which sign and degree each of the ten bodies occupied, and which house it falls in. A simple way to read it: the body is what is acting, the sign is how it acts, and the house is where in life it shows up. Venus in the 7th house, for example, is read as Venus's qualities — affection, harmony, taste — showing most clearly in relationships and partnerships.
- Mercury: how you think, speak and learn
- Venus: what you love, how you show affection, your sense of beauty
- Mars: drive, competitiveness, how you react when angry
- Jupiter and Saturn: opportunities for growth and the lessons you keep working on
- Uranus, Neptune and Pluto: slow movers whose themes are shared by a whole generation
"Retrograde (℞)" means that, seen from Earth, the body appeared to move backwards across the sky at the time. It never truly reverses its orbit, but astrologers read a retrograde body's energy as turned inward rather than outward.
How this calculator works
Your birth time is converted to Universal Time (UTC) using your birth city's time zone, including daylight saving time where it applied on that date. We then calculate each body's ecliptic longitude for that moment. The rising sign is computed from your city's latitude and longitude and the local sidereal time at birth. Houses use the Whole Sign system, where the entire sign containing the Ascendant is the 1st house — the oldest house system in classical astrology, and one that keeps houses even at high latitudes.
If you don't know your birth time, we show a "solar chart" that places your Sun's sign in the 1st house. The rising sign is not calculated in that case, and the Moon may be off by up to about 13° within the day. If you can find your birth time on a birth certificate or ask your family, try again with it.
Combining it with face reading
A birth chart reads your inborn temperament from the sky at the moment of birth; face reading reads the person you have become from your face today. They are different traditions, but side by side they let you compare where your nature and your present self agree and where they differ. We compare the two approaches in Astrology and face reading, and each sign's temperament and compatibility is covered in the zodiac guide.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my birth date stored?
- No. Only the date, time and city coordinates needed for the calculation are sent to our server to get the result; no account details or names are sent. Closing the page clears your input and result.
- My Sun sign differs from other sites.
- If you were born on a cusp date (for example March 20–21), your sign depends on the exact moment the Sun changed sign that year. This calculator uses the Sun's actual position at your birth time rather than a date table, so adding your birth time gives the most accurate answer.
- I was born abroad.
- You can choose major cities in Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan. If your city isn't listed, pick the nearest one; within the same time zone everything except the rising sign will be nearly identical.
- Can I trust the result?
- The positions come from astronomical calculation, but reading them as personality or fortune is the cultural tradition of astrology. Please treat it as an enjoyable prompt for self-reflection rather than a scientific prediction.
